U-15 Youth League: FC Mumbaikars sinks FSI 2-1

23rd November 2017, Mumbai: The 5th matchday of the ongoing U-15 Youth League (Maharashtra Zone) saw high-flying FC Mumbaikars locking horns against a spirited Football School of India (FSI) side at Cooperage Stadium on Thursday evening.

Football School of India (FSI) went into the game on the back of a 1-0 win over Rush Steadfast, whereas, FC Mumbaikars suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Reliance Foundation Young Champs. Undoubtedly, FCM needed a win yesterday in order to keep up the pressure on the rest of the teams and they did succeed after a resounding 2-0 victory to go top of the Maharashtra Zone table.

Right from the kick-off, FCM dominated the match with their incisive passes and majority of the ball possession. After missing couple of easy opportunities, a back pass by FSI’s Captain Aman Sayyed was handled inside the box by FSI’s Goalkeeper Swapnil Kavar.

Referee Crystal John awarded an indirect free-kick straightaway. Over five players lined up to take the free-kick for FCM in front of seven FSI players who stood beside each other to protect the goal. FCM’s Siddhart Manchandani made a brilliant move to comfortably place his effort in the back of the net to give FCM a solitary lead.

FSI could have equalized in the second-half when they had two clear-cut opportunities to change the course of the match. A wonderful move by Bhupati Chandara found Karan Prajapati in the six-yard box who somehow manage to place his effort wide.

A couple of minutes later, Bhupati Chandara’s precise cross from the right flank found an unmarked Aman Dubey whose looping header sailed over the bar. Two great opportunities got wasted in space of a few minutes.

Those misses came back to haunt FSI as Josiah Noronha doubled FCM’s lead in the 83rd minute with a sublime goal. In the dying minutes, FSI’s Bhupati delicate lob over the goalkeeper was cleared from the line by defender Joel Barnes which pretty much summed up FSI’s night.
