Somaiya vs Malwani & PIFA U-19 vs IC Utd ends in a draw

22nd December 2017, Mumbai: On Thursday, in the 1st Division of MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association), two matches were played at St. Xavier’s Ground, Parel. In the first match, Malwani SC locked horns against Somaiya Sports Academy while PIFA Colaba U-19 played against IC United in the second game.

Malwani FC 1-1 Somaiya Sports Academy – Group A

In a Group A encounter, Somaiya Sports Academy held Malwani FC to a 1-1 draw at St. Xavier’s Ground, Parel on Thursday afternoon. In what was an exciting clash, Somaiya Sports Academy made sure to dig deep which rescued them a crucial point.

With this result, Somaiya Sports Academy is tied with Miners FC at the top of Group A table with seven points in three games, whereas, Malwani FC is struggling to find form as they are fifth in the table with only five points. Although it was Malwani who dominated the whole game yesterday.

Attacking midfielder Avlon Dias opened the scoring with a superb strike in the 14th minute which gave Malwani a solitary lead. They had numerous opportunities to double their lead but the lack of killer instinct in front of goal held them back.

Malwani would have cruised to victory but an error from Malwani’s goalkeeper saw Sagar Singh placing his effort in the back of the net which helped Somaiya escape with a hard-fought draw.

PIFA Colaba U-19 2-2 IC United – Group C

In the second match between Group C’s PIFA Colaba U-19 and IC United, both the sides had to settle for a point where they could have easily got away with a win at St. Xavier’s Ground, Parel. IC United had to depend on a late goal to salvage a draw against a spirited and energetic PIFA Colaba U-19 side.

After this result, PIFA Colaba sits third on the table with seven points, while IC United lies at seventh with two points. IC United started off brilliantly as they opened the scoring through Conrad Conreia’s sublime goal, but PIFA responded brilliantly when they levelled the score after Omkar Shinde and Vinayak Singh combined brilliantly to put the ball in the back of the net.

It was Vinayak Singh’s close-range header from Omkar’s fine cross. PIFA had a great game but their poor finishing let them down. After setting up the first goal, Omkar Shinde put PIFA in front with a superb one-on-one goal in the second-half, but with time running out, Conrad bagged his second goal of the game for IC United when he equalized after a goalkeeping error.
