Round-up of opening day of KSA Veteran Football Tournament
Mumbai: Football action is heating up in Mumbai and Karnatak Sporting Association’s (KSA’s) veteran tournament promises to be a treat for all the football fans. Well, in case you are wondering what is this, when will it begin and the other details? As always Football Counter brings you all the information.
Late Shri Vishwanath Anchan Memorial – KSA Veterans Football tournament began on Monday, March 20, 2017, at the KSA ground, Cross Maidan.
- A total of 12 clubs are participating in this tournament which is being revived after a gap of almost eight years.
- The 12 teams have been divided into four groups of three teams each and will play on round-robin league basis initially.
- The top team from each group will qualify for the semi-finals scheduled on Friday, March 24
- The grand finale will be played on Saturday, March 25.
A quick round-up of the matches played on Monday that began 3 pm onwards.
- KSA 2-1 CSL
- Hosts Karnataka Sports Association got off to a winning start with a 2-1 win over the Colaba Sports League ( CSL).
- It was KSA who took the lead when Russel Risario opened the scoring in the 2nd minute of the 1st Nagesh Swamy equalized for CSL in the 30th minute of the 2nd half.
- But it was Russel Risario again, this time with the winner giving KSA a monumental start.

- SBI 1-0 Tarun Sporting
- SBI were dominant for most parts of the game.
- But it was Tarun Sporting that managed to create the better chances on goal.
- SBI had their keeper to thank for keeping them at 0-0 and later Tausif Jamal grabbed the only goal of the match in the 2nd half which proved to be the match-winner.

- The best match of the day turned out to be a goalless draw
- Both teams had their goalkeepers to thank for pulling out some wonderful saves
- Both the teams were lackluster in front of goal and the defense were made hard to toil with no end products
