RCF-Nadkarni Cup: Mumbai Customs beat Central Railway 3-1 in a thriller

Mumbai Customs held their nerves to record a thrilling 3-1 win over Central Railway in their first round match of the 110th RCF-Nadkarni Cup football tournament, organized by RCF Sports Club under the aegis of Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) and played at the RCF Colony ground, Chembur on 13th February 2017, i.e Monday afternoon.

It was an edge of the seat affair as both teams looked to progress to the next round of this amazing knockout tournament.  The Customs side drew first blood in the 7th minute through a goal from Francisco Salin. And the Customs side was able to double their lead at the stroke of halftime when Rinaldo Fernandes converted his chance neatly.

It looked a certain Customs win at the halftime whistle as they had done everything right to thwart the Central Railway attacking threat. But football can be a game of two halves and it certainly looked like that when Central Railway got right back in the match. Sumesh Nair’s penalty in the 69th minute was a lifeline. But any chances of a 2-2 went in vain as Customs hero Francisco scored his second goal of the match in the 94th minute stamping his team’s ticket to the next round.

The Mumbai Customs sets up a clash against the Mumbai FC Colts on Wednesday. Stay tuned to Football Counter for all the updates.
