MDFA referee course received an overwhelming response as 36 participants joined in the two days training classes. Interestingly the average age of the participants was between 25 & 30 years of age, which also included two girls.

The course was conducted by Western India Football Association under the super vision of Mr. Dhanraj More (HOR, Maharashtra). The well known former international referee and present match commissioner Mr. Walter Perreira imparted his vast knowledge and experience to the participants who all highly appreciated the way that two days class was conducted.

Mr. Dhanraj More (HOR) also gave in details about the laws of the game and with the help of Mr. U Banerjee, General Secretary was present along with Mr. Shodhana Shetty (Treasurer) and committee member Mr. A. P. Rodrigues, Ajit Sawant, and Advocate Ryan Menezes.

Mr. Banerjee at the end thanked all the participants for showing their interest in becoming referees, which is a dire need for MDFA to run the Football league matches. Banerjee also said that, “Unlike earlier times, referees have a brilliant career opportunity, if they take up their profession seriously.”

Despite not being a hot bed for football like Kolkata, Mumbai has seen resurgence, in people’s interest in the game, but the referees count didn’t see the Jump. Banerjee added,”Mumbai hardly has three or four national referee at this moment when a few years back at least dozen of referees were plying their trade in the national football matches so we have to once again regain that glory of making a good standard of referees which will improve the quality of football and also give a name and fame for the city as well as for the state.”

Banerjee personally thanked Mr. Walter Pereira, for conducting the class despite his busy schedule and also expressed his gratitude to Mr. Dhanraj More (HOR) who organized the referee’s class very effectively. Mr. Banerjee also thanked BKLP, WIFA, Mr. Dinesh Nair and all the participants and those who assisted in conducting the class for both the days.

Fitness test and written examination will be held in the second week of January 2018, venue and time of which, will be notified to the participants in due course.
