Football Leader emerge champions in MDFA Women’s League

The victorious Football Leaders Academy players proudly pose with the ‘Champions’ trophy along with Chief Guest, Aditya Thackeray, who is also the Chairman of the MDFA. Football Leaders Academy defeated defending champions Bodyline FC 5-4 via the tie-breaker in the final of the MDFA Women’s League 2017 and played at the Karnatak SA ground, Cross Maidan on Monday evening.

Mumbai, May 1: Football Leaders Academy were crowned champions as they overcame defending champions Bodyline FC 5-4 via the tie-breaker penalty shootout in the final of the MDFA Women’s League 2017 and played at the Karnatak SA ground, Cross Maidan on Monday evening. The summit clash witnessed an interesting contest, but the match finished in a goalless draw and the tie-breaker was enforced to decide the winners.

In the penalty shootout duel, Football Leaders goalkeeper Shreya Yadav played the key role bringing off a brilliant save from the first shot taken by Karen Pais and that effort provided her team, the crucial advantage. Shreya’s teammates did not let her down as they successfully converted all their five penalty kicks. Showing strong nerves, Laura Estiberio, Suman Salian, Joytika Singh, Neha Ture and Priya Tiwari, coolly scored from the ‘spot’ to secure Football Leaders triumph.

Bodyline managed to score from the remaining four tries through Ameeta Venkat, Kimberley Fernandez, Ritacasica Ukachukwu and Juhi Shah.

Earlier, Companeroes SC defeated PIFA SC 3-0 in the Third place match. Strikers Andriette Rodrigues, Bhumika Mane and Madona Fernandes scored a goal each to clinch the win for Companeroes.

Results –Women’s League (finals): Football Leaders Academy 5 (Laura Estiberio, Suman Salian, Joytika Singh, Neha Ture, Priya Tiwari) beat Bodyline FC 4 (Ameeta Venkat, Kimberley Fernandez, Ritacasica Ukachukwu, Juhi Shah) via the tie-breaker. Full time: 0-0.

Third place: Companeroes SC 3 (Andriette Rodrigues, Bhumika Mane, Madona Fernandes) beat PIFA 0.
