All participating teams are the title contender – Jeje Lalpekhlua

NEW DELHI: After a historic Hero I-League season of 2014/15 where Mohun Bagan lifted their first Hero I-League trophy, the Mariners missed out on the coveted trophy by a mere two points in the 2015/16 edition. With a new season kicking-off, Sanjoy Sen’s men are eager to get their hands on the silverware again, and leading the Mariners in their quest from the front is AIFF’s Player of the Year 2016 Jeje Lalpekhlua.

In an exclusive interview with www.the-aiff.com, the striker talks at length about Hero I-League, his aspirations, the Club’s objectives for the new season and much more. EXCERPTS:

New season, new competition, same determination?

Yes! And I have to be more determined this season as this season I have to work even harder and play for the fans who have supported me throughout my journey.

What are your personal targets for the season?

My personal target is to give more than my cent percent in every match that I play in the hope of winning the Hero I-League trophy again.

What is the Club’s objective for the new season?

Mohun Bagan will stop at nothing less than winning the Hero I-League Trophy. The squad is shaping up good and the lads are putting in the hard work in the training sessions. We just have to emulate what we have learnt on the field and play with everything that we have.

How competitive is the Hero I-League going to be this year?

Every match in the Hero I-League this season has the potential to decide the League and every match is important. The League this year is going to be very tough and if we have to win the League this year, as a Team we have to give more than our hundred percent in every match that we play.

How tough will be the title challenge from JSW Bengaluru FC?

The title challenge is not just going to be posed by Bengaluru FC, but by every Team which is participating. All Teams in the Hero I-League are on the same page this year and every Team has the potential to be crowned as the eventual winners.
