Air India U-19 crown MDFA Super Division Champions 2016-17, completing a hat trick of titles

The Air India Under-19 team, emerged champions of the MDFA Super Division League 2016-17 when they defeated Mumbai Strikers 5-0 in the concluding league match at the Cooperage ground on Friday.

Mumbai: Air India Under-19 beat Mumbai Strikers 5-0 to complete a hat-trick of triumphs by winning the MDFA Super Division title for the third successive year. In the concluding league match, the Air India youngsters produced an outstanding performance to record a thumping victory against Mumbai Strikers at the Cooperage ground on 12th May, 2017 i.e Friday evening.

The Man of the Match for Air India’s sensational win was striker Dingku Sharma who showed superb scoring form scoring four goals, leading from the front. Sumesh Nair got one to complete the rout.

Air India remained unbeaten throughout, have finished with 11 points from three wins and two draws to emerge champions. Mumbai Strikers have finished with 9 points from 3 wins and are in contention for the runners-up spot with Century Rayon who have 8 points from 4 games and a match in hand against Bank of India on Saturday.

The Air India boys gradually got into a groove and drew first blood through Dingku in the 15th minute. The dashing striker added the second in the 36th minute to give his team a 2-0 half-time cushion.

In the second half, Sumesh netted the third in the 47thminute before Dingku scored two quick goals in the final five minutes to ensure Air India signed off in style.

In another match, Century Rayon were held to a 2-2 draw by Mumbai FC at the Andheri Sports Complex. Sagar Bedekar scored both the goals for Century, while Sohail Khatri and Joel Dias were on target for Mumbai FC. Meanwhile, Bank of India and Mumbai Warriors played out a 2-2 draw at the St. Xavier’s ground, Parel.

Air India has been the undisputed kings of the Super Division for the past three years. Will there be a team to pip them for the title next season? Will there be new champions next season? So many questions but you know where to find the answers.
