110th RCF-Nadkarni Cup: 10-man Karntaka SA down Bank of India 2-0

Mumbai, February 8: A 10-man Karnatak Sporting Association (KSA) struck once in each half to overcome Bank Nadkarni Cup football tournament, organized by RCF Sports Club under the aegis of MDFA and played at the RCF Colony ground, Chembur on Wednesday afternoon. The Karnatak side scored through Rishi Shetty in the 24th minute and Shailesh Jadhav in the 89th minute to complete their win and advance to the quarter-finals.
KSA stopper back Sanjay Rathod, picked up a second yellow and was shown the red card by referee Louis Fernandes in the 73rd minute. He was earlier booked for a foul in the 58th minute.
In the second match of the day, Air India outplayed GM Sports Club by a thumping 9-0 margin to set up a meeting with KSA in the quarter-final round.
KSA were dominant from the start and after some early misses, finally managed to get the breakthrough in the 24th minute. Dashing forward, Sherwyn Chang’s snap-shot from the edge of the area was blocked by the goalkeeper and the rebound went to Rishi shetty, who coolly slotted home.
The Karnatak side got their second goal late in the game when Jadhav picked up a measured through pass from Francisco before tapping in for close in the 89th minute.
Last year’s runners-up Air India dominated from the outset and scored through Sunny Thakur (2), Vijith Shett (2) and Pratik Koli (2) while Anuraj Sidhu, Daniel Muthu and Prakash Thorat added one each to complete the demolition of their opponents.
In Thursday matches, Union Bank of India takes on Century Rayon at 1.30 pm and ONGC face off against Dena Bank at 3.30 pm.
