Siddhesh Tambekar’s winner helps ICL-A overcome Alphonso Academy by 2-1

ICL-A beat Alphonso 2-1 in the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA), First Division playoff match held on Saturday evening at St Xavier’s ground, Parel.

ICL-A have been under scrutiny following their controversial incident few weeks back. But they had a play off match to play and silence the critics as they looked to build their way to the semi final of the 1st Division play-off.

And they were handed a brilliant start when Sudip headed home the goal from a free-kick early in the first half. The entire team were on the attack which caused a panic in the Alphonso defense and lead to a free-kick. Alphonso then rose into the game with a string of attacks down the left. They were instrumental in going forward except the finishing where they missed a few chances. ICL-A were quick to capitalize on these mistakes as number 17 Siddhesh Tambekar scored the second. That gave ICL a two goal cushion. Heading into half time they lead by 2-0.

In the second half, Alphonso Academy were rejuvanated as they looked to make a comeback and almost did so when they got a goal back. Any chance of an equalizer were thwarted by ICL defending as the team maintained its shape at the back. With final few minutes remaining Alphonso Academy committed men forward but failed to bring out anything from it.

ICL-A truimphed 2-1 against a spirited Alphonso Academy side who gave nothing away except two moments in the first half. There is still some way to go before we conclude with the first division playoff semi finalists. Stay tuned for more on footballcounter.com
