Shiv Sagar F.C ran out as winners against Shark F.C

Shiv Sagar F.C continued their fine run of form when they overcame Shark F.C 2-1 in their Colaba Sports League 2016 game at Cooperage Stadium on Wednesday evening. Shiv Sagar F.C has managed to win both their games which is a tremendous start in this second edition of CSL whereas, Shark F.C didn’t start the way they hoped for as they are yet to open their account.

Marquee player Merwyn Stephen opened the scoring for Shiv Sagar F.C on the 25th minute before Shark F.C’s Walter Liu equalized seven minutes later. Just when the match was headed towards a draw, Shiv Sagar F.C was awarded with the penalty, their second marquee player Ritesh Perambra kept his cool and won all three points for the boys in yellow.

Both the teams didn’t had a fine start as number of chances and opportunities were wasted in the first twenty minutes. Shiv Sagar F.C then switched to counter attacking football and soon they had their first goal of the game.

On 25th minute, Shiv Sagar’s Captain Hemant Meher found Merwyn with a pinpoint pass just when he made the run inside the box, Merwyn danced past his markers and beautifully lobbed over Shark F.C’s goalkeeper Pritam Jadhav to score his first goal of this season’s CSL.

Two minutes later it could have been 2-0 when a great chemistry between Hemant Meher and Merwyn Stephen almost outclassed Shark F.C’s vulnerable defense. Hemant went past his marker and delivered a fantastic cross from the right flank into the box which was headed just wide by goalscorer Merwyn.

Shark F.C fought back hard couple of minutes later when their Captain Walter Liu pounced on a loose ball inside the box to level the score. This was also Shark F.C’s first goal of the campaign.

On the 36th minute, Hemant could have restored the parity for Shiv Sagar F.C but he fumbled inside the box and only managed to hit his effort wide. Both the teams went into the break with the score tied at 1-1.

Fifteen minutes into the second-half, Shark F.C got their best chance of the game which was, yet again, wasted. Anil Pawar used his pace to went past two defenders before cutting inside from the right flank to have a go at the goal which was brilliantly kept out by Vikas Gupta. Noel Rodrigues was quick enough to pounce on Gupta’s save but only managed to shoot it wide.

Hemant Meher truly had a fantastic game overall. He not only assisted the first goal but also won his side a penalty late in the second-half. Marquee player Ritesh stepped up and send Pritam Jadhav the wrong way to restore the parity.

Shiv Sagar’s gritty defense held on and registered their second win in a row. Meanwhile, poor finishing from Shark F.C has already cost them two games which proved to be the only difference in both of their games.

Shark F.C’s Prakash Khatti who had an impressive game was awarded with the man of the match award.
