Relentless Kenkre defeat Young Boys by 1-0

A relentless Kenkre U-19 team beat Young Boys by 1-0 in the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) , Super Division match held on Wednesday evening at St Xavier’s ground, Parel.
Young Boys faced a stern test as they battled Kenkre U-19. Both the teams were not willing to sit back as they wanted to play possession based football starting from the word go. The first half could have seen both teams take a lead. But a brilliant save from Kenkre keeper denied Young boys whereas the crossbar denied a goal for Kenkre U-19 team.
The best chance for Young Boys came midway through the first half in the 25th minute when a lovely cross down the right was headed towards goal by number 9 Ansari Abid only for the keeper to extend his palm and save. It looked a certain goal until the heroics from the keeper kept the score 0-0.
Kenkre were not done yet and they created a chance of their own switching the wings brilliantly from left to right as number 11 Shimyu Kumar passed a wonderful weighted pass to right back, number 12 Shunthan Pheiray who dodged passed players to cross the ball only for striker, number 10 Alister Anthony to hit the crossbar. Alister stretched his leg out only for his effort to hit the crossbar and stay out as Kenkre were left frustrated. At halftime both teams went in level at 0-0.
We noticed a different Kenkre team in the second half as they were able to press a lot better and construct their attacks well down the flanks as they looked in search of the winner. Apparently that moment came in the 79th minute when a misplaced pass from the Young Boys midfielder was collected by Kenkre right back Shunthan Pheiray who made a lung bursting run down the right before passing it in the six yard area. A scramble of legs directed the ball towards number 14 Brent Fernandes who made no mistake putting the ball beyond the keeper into the net. A goal which everyone saw coming gave Kenkre the lead. In the final seconds of the game Fernandes had another chance to double the lead but his shot was saved well enough by the Young Boys keeper.
Young Boys were left frustrated in the end whereas Kenkre improved their game as it went on only for them to grab a win. A much needed win after their draw in the previous game.
