Air India humiliates ONGC by scoring six

Air India bounced back with a astonishing 6-0 triumph over ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Corporation) in the most anticipated match of the season in MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) Elite Division at Cooperage Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

There were six different scorers for the victors as Aaron D’Costa, Sunny Thakur, Raynier Fernandes, Wayne Vaz, Henderson Dias and Neil Gaikwad got their names on the scoresheet.

Air India’s unbeaten streak which was ended by Union Bank of India (UBI) last time around almost crashed their chances to regain the Elite Division Title, but their superior attacking display against ONGC has helped them move to the top of the Elite Division Table.

It took Air India just 3 minutes to open the scoring when attacking midfielder Aaron D’Costa found the back of the net with a sublime drive against the run of play.

Two minutes later, Sunny Thakur made it 2-0, as he slotted his shot under the hapless ONGC goalkeeper Rahul Chadha. The Air India’s dugout jumped in joy, knowing that the boys in red has already done half the job.

Meanwhile, ONGC players were left in disdain four minutes later as Air India were awarded with a penalty. Aaron D’Costa was brought down in the box by Dhiraj Meher, where the Referee had no option other than awarding a penalty.

Star midfielder Raynier Fernandes stepped up and beautifully buried his shot into the right top corner to increase Air India’s lead to three goals.

ONGC’s substitue Dharmesh Patel tested Air India’s custodian Ubaid CK with a thunderous shot, which was initially saved by Ubaid on the 17th minute.

Couple of minutes later, Air India could have got their fourth goal. Raynier and Henderson Dias showed some equisite chemistry between them when a good link up play builded a beautiful move, which saw Henderson’s shot being saved by Rahul Chadha.

Midway into the first-half, ONGC’s Dhiraj Meher and Nitesh Monde were booked by the Referee for harsh challenges on Ashkar CV and Vijith Shetty, respectively.

On 41st minute, Enock Annan delivered a pinpoint ball towards Kailash Patil, whose left footed volley was brilliantly saved by Ubaid CK.

In the second-half, it took Air India just two minutes to get their fourth goal of the game. Ashkar CV’s peach of a free kick was brilliantly headed in by Wayne Vaz to end any ONGC’s hope of a comeback.

Ten minutes later, a vulnerable defense of ONGC were once again punished on counter when Aaron D’Costa squeezed past two ONGC defenders and rolled the ball towards Subhas Chakraborty, who found Henderson Dias unmarked in front of the goal. The number 7 tapped the low cross into the empty net to make it 5-0 for Air India.

In the other half, Air India’s backline were well and truly organized for the whole ninety minutes as their back four didn’t left any space for the ONGC’s forwards.

Air India’s substitute Mashoor made a good impact on the game. Coming late in the second half, his delightful pass helped Air India getting their sixth goal of the game on the 90th minute.

Mashoor found Reed Santos in front of the goal, whose initial shot was saved by Rahul Chadha but unfortunately fell into’s Neil Gaikwad’s way, who comfortably found the back of the net from three yards.

It was the last piece of the action as Air India made up for the loss against Union Bank of India (UBI) to once again find their place at the top of the Elite Division Table.
