Namrata hat-trick inspires Packers to easy victory
By Press Release: Inspired by the impressive showing of striker Namrata Thakur, who scored a hat-trick, Bandra Packers outshone Sea View SC by coasting to a 4-0 victory in the women’s first round match for Dereyk DeSouza Memorial Trophy in the Catholic Gymkhana Annual Rink Football tournament, played on the Gymkhana’s floodlit courts, Marine Lines. Snehal Manchkar netted the fourth goal for the winning side.
Meanwhile, defending champions U.K. United fell by the wayside going down rather tamely 1-6 to last year’s runners-up Bodyline FC in another one-sided women’s contest. The highlight of the match was the hat-trick notched up by Levanha Samuel, while teammates, Tricia Collaco, Kimberly Fernandes and Prajakta Tambekar chipped in with one each to help Bodyline complete the win and in the process avenge their defeat in the previous edition. Ayesha Rawat got the consolation goal for the United outfit.
In men’s action for the Darryl Crasto Memorial Trophy, defending champs Kalina Trashers crashed out in the second round going down 0-1 to Autonomous FC, who recently won the Bandra Gym title. Autonomous scored the all-important winning goal through Dwit Armarkar’s efforts.
Meanwhile, former champions Joga Bonita snatched a close 2-1 win over Mighty Young Joe, Malad to advance to the third round. Joshua Fernandes and Johnson D’Silva were on target with a goal each for Bonita, while Tyson Pereira got the lone goal for the losers.
Bombastic FC had things much their own way to cruise to a comfortable 2-0 win against Dazzling Stars in another men’s second round match. Opportunistic scorer Roger Fernandes netted both the goals to seal 2) beat 0.
