Mumbai Warriors’ comeback helps them stay alive in MDFA Super Division next season

Mumbai Warrior’s breathtaking comeback inspired them to a 2-1 victory over Bombay Muslims in the Mumbai District Football Association(MDFA), Super Division match held on Wednesday evening at St Xavier’s ground Parel.

Both the teams came into this match knowing how important a win was to get them towards survival. Bombay Muslims and Mumbai Warriors played the most important 90 minutes of their MDFA season. The match begun with Warriors taking the initiative creating chances. The finishing was missing but there was a lot of time to capitalise. Bombay Muslims tried to create chances of their own but failed to convert as both teams looked deadlocked at 0-0. Very nearly in the first half a thunderous shoot from the right from Warriors hit the left post and stayed out as luck denied Warriors the lead. Both teams went inside with the scoreline 0-0.

The  second produced all the action and the goals as we witnessed a thrilling comeback from the Warriors. Tabrez Khan opened the scoring in the 58th minute for the Bombay Muslims as it was 1-0 in their favor. The chances of survival seemed decent but there was still more than half an hour to play and hold onto the lead. But it was not the story as Mumbai Warriors had a script of their own. In the 67th minute the Warriors got a free-kick which proved pivotal. The shot fired at the goal was spilled by the Bombay Muslims keeper and Akshay Kamble was there to put in the rebound. 1-1 and it was game on. Warriors dominated the entire game whereas Bombay Muslims had moments in patches to score. But the drama unfolded in the 90th minute when Pranay Bhandari netted the winner giving Warriors all three points.

That was another roller coaster at the end of which Mumbai Warriors came out victorious. This 2-1 victory means that they are safe and will be playing in the Super Division next MDFA season. Everyone at Football Counter congratulates the Mumbai Warriors team on successfully avoiding relegation and making a spirited comeback. Special mentions to coach Rajkumar Ashappa for leading his team all the time.
