MDFA & Mumbai City FC Join Hands to Organize Inaugural MDFA Under – 16 League

Mumbai: Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) ‘the governing body of football for Mumbai City and Suburbs’ and Indian Super League side Mumbai City FC along with Sporting Lions has joined hands to organise the first-ever MDFA Under – 16 Youth Challenge tournament. Recently in the month of November, i.e., last month, these same entities, resolute to bring a difference in the grassroots sector of Indian football, has organised MDFA’s U-14 Youth league. With an apparent and evident success of the predecessor, we can definitely anticipate even better this time. The tournament will kick-off on 27 December 2016 as a total of 24 teams will participate in the inaugural season.
The Youth Challenge tournament will see Steadfast F.C., Indian F.A., Dadar XI, Sellebrity F.C., Bombay F.C., Mumbai F.C., Vision Rescue., Our Lady of Fatima, Kenkre F.C., Athens XI, Hedgewar F.C., F.C. Mumbaikars, PIFA, Mumbai Strikers, Sagar F.C., Charotaroki F.C., Nau Nihal, Milan F.A., R.C.F., Mangesh Sports Academy, Bharat F.C., Mandanpura S.C. and Phoenix Sports participate.
There are three venues where the tournament will be played: Dadar XI and M.S.S.A. Ground, Azad Maidan. The normal regulatory time for the matches will be 30 minutes. The four-day long tournament will host its final on 31st December 2016 at Lions Club, Santacruz. The quarter-final and semi-final stage will be played on the 29th of December; as the knockout stage of the tournament featuring 24 teams will be played on 27 & 28 December.
Recently, the two parties MDFA and Mumbai City F.C. along with Sporting Lions successfully concluded the under-14 edition of the tournament; which also happened to be for the first time. MSSA got their hands on the title as they defeated Mumbai F.C. narrowly by 1-0 in an intense final.

The growing need for competitive tournaments at the grassroots has brought Mumbai with a couple of high-quality events such as the under-14 league and now under-16 Youth Challenge tournament. This, as a result, will help not only the players but the game at large to blossom to its potential in terms of popularity.
