IDBI make it to the play-offs after winning 2-1 against Young Guns

IDBI beat Young Guns 2-1 in the Mumbai District Football Association ( MDFA),First Division match held on Thursday evening i.e 4th February 2016, at St Xavier’s ground, Parel.

The match went through some topsy-turvy moments where any team could have gone in front. IDBI looked much more determined to go in front. And they gor their breakthrough in the 6th minute when a howler from the Young Guns goalkeeper allowed Nayan Dhanu to put IDBI in front. A precious moment in the game where things looked like end to end stuff.

IDBI grew into the game and dominated possession. A highline from Young Guns meant they were now looking to slide the through ball to their centre-forward who was trying to stay on side. After many give and go’s the score at halftime remained 1-0 in favor of IDBI

Second halfs of MDFA games, majority of them have always proved to be the real deal. Many of the games go through a roller coaster. Many matches can be described as Cliffhangers. IDBI started from where they left and managed to score the second in the 57th minute when number 19 Bhavik Tandel netted the second. Another gift from the Young Guns keeper. Although IDBI’s attempt to get third were thwarted by their lacklustre finishing. And this almmost came back to haunt them when Young Guns pulled one back. Number 7 Karan Durante cut in beautifully from the left before slotting home the finish beyond the IDBI keeper. Any attempts from Young Guns to make it 2-2 were insufficient as they ran out of time.

For Young Guns it is the story of if’s and but’s. If not for those errors at the back may be they could have snatched a point. But IDBI played like a team going for all three points. With this point IDBI qualify for the playoffs with ICL-A from group E.
