Chheda Nagar storm into semi-finals
Mumbai, March 8: Scoring a goal in each half, Consultus-Chheda Nagar Prodigies eked out a hard-fought 2-1 win against ICL (Indian Cultural League) ‘A’ in a First Division play-off match of the MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) League 2015-2016 and played at the St. Xavier’s ground, Parel on Tuesday. Shavez Surve and Ian Fialho were on traget for Chheda Nagar and Arnold Saldanha scored for ICL.
In an evenly contested encounter, Chheda Nagar grabbed the initiative when Shavez Surve found the net in the 34th minute. However, their joy was short-lived as ICL managed to cancel out the lead with Arnold Saldanha scoring the equalizer four minutes later.
After switching ends, both teams pressed hard in search of goals, but it was Chheda Nagar who managed to find success with Ian Fialho netting the crucial winner in the 77th minute to confirm their passage to the penultimate round.
Chheda Nagar has now completed the semi-final line-up. They will play against HDFC and in the other semi-final, Reserve Bank of India take on Century Rayon. All four teams have earned promotion to the Super Division next season.
The semi-final dates are yet to be decided.
