HDFC make semi-finals, earn Super Div promotion

Mumbai, March 7: Double strikes by Ketan Kalgutkar and Blaise Fernandes ensured HDFC steamroll Desperadoes Sports Club 5-0 in the First Division play-off match of the MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) League 2015-2016 and played at the St. Xavier’s ground, Parel on Monday.

The victory was even sweeter for HDFC as they have now qualified for the semi-finals and have also earned promotion to the Super Division next season.

The winners who led 2-0 at the lemon break, thanks to Blaise finding the net in the 45th minute after Ketan opened HDFC’s account, finding the net on the quarter hour.

HDFC continued to hold sway after the cross over and increased the lead when Lester Fonseca found the net in the 62nd minute. They continued to mount pressure and eight minutes later Blaise beat the goalkeeper for his second goal of the match before Ketan closed out the match, finding the net with a neat strike 10 minutes from the final whistle.

In the penultimate round, HDFC will meet the winners of the last play-off match to be played between ICL ‘A’ and Chheda Nagar Prodigies, who play on Tuesday. Reserve Bank of India take on Century Rayon in the other semi-final.

Result – Div-I play-off: HDFC 5 (Ketan Kalgutkar 15th, 80th, Blaise Fernandes 45th, 72, Lester Fonseca 62nd) beat Desperadoes SC 0.
