Yamik Holkar’s strike sends Jupiter FC into the Quarters

Jupiter FC reached the Quarter Finals of the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) 3rd Division after a hard fought 1-0 victory over Santacruz FC at St. Xavier’s Ground in Parel on Tuesday, 26th May 2015.

The game between Jupiter and Santacruz was touted as the game to look forward to in the 3rd Division pre-quarters ties and despite the lack of goals it did live up to its hype.

The game got off to a brilliant start as both teams went for it from the word go, resulting in a highly entertaining and an open first fifteen minutes of play.

The crucial moment in the game came around the 20 minute mark when Yamik Holkar made a brilliant run to get at the end of a beautifully crafted Vicky Thomas through ball and score after dodging the goalkeeper.

Yamik Holkar’s goal was the difference at half time as Jupiter were another twenty five minutes away from the quarter finals.

Santacruz FC started the second half strongly, forcing Jupiter on the back foot in the game. But the men from Chembur did well to resist the pressure which Santacruz put on them in the second half to hold on for a famous victory.

The win sparked celebrations among the Jupiter FC bench as they made it to this stage after two years of attempting.

The goal scorer Yamik Holkar dedicated his goal to his father who sadly passed away earlier in the month. It was a great display of courage, dedication and character from Yamik who despite this great loss got on to the field of football and made his team proud.

The game of football often gets the best out of you even at the toughest of times and Yamik’s case is just another one of those. The story doesn’t end here for Yamik and his team as they look to carry this momentum all the way to the 2nd Division if possible.
