Rampant Malvani FC ease into the Quarter Finals

Malvani FC dished out a dominant display in their 4-1 thrashing of Rahul Mitra Mandal (RMM) in the 2nd round of the play-offs of the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) 3rd Division at the St. Xavier’s Ground in Parel on Tuesday, 26th May 2015.

Malvani started the game brightly as they got their crisp passing game going. The movement of the Malvani forwards created problems for the RMM defense.

The RMM defence cracked in the 9th minute under the growing Malvani pressure, when Moheeb Hussain fired into the net as the ball nicely sat up for him just inside the penalty area.

Three minutes later, Malvani doubled their lead as Moheeb Hussain struck again, this time latching on to a Sohail Qureshi free kick and slotting it past the RMM goalkeeper.

Malvani were in complete control of proceedings and managed to pin RMM deep inside their own half.

Malvani further added to their advantage in the 21st minute with a picture book goal resulting out of a crisp passing move which saw Sohail Qureshi set up Avlon Dias who made no mistake in making it 3-0 in Malvani FC’s favour at half time.

RMM made the best possible start to the second half when Freedon Fernando stunningly found the net from an extremely tight angle as his lobbed effort dipped into the side netting over the goalkeeper’s head.

The goal gave RMM real hope with the deficit reduced to two goals, so early on in the half.

RMM’s goal through did not seem to deter Malvani FC who continued to look threatening going forward but failed to convert the opportunities that came their way.

Malvani FC’s Moheeb Hussain was inches away from grabbing his hat-trick when a clever intricate play between him and Avlon Dias saw Moheeb Hussain through on goal only to see his effort go wide of the target.

The chances continued to flow for Malvani FC as they almost made it 4-1 when David D’souza’s header was shot onto the upright by Ritesh Sathe in the 45th minute.

But the duo weren’t to be denied four minutes later, when David D’Souza did brilliantly well to get past the full back and leave Ritesh Sathe with a tap in as the substitute duly obliged to make it 4-1 to Malvani FC.

Malvani’s performance clearly fired a warning at the other teams as the Men in Red and Blue could now start dreaming of the big prize.
