Xavier’s Boys drub Anand Mitra Mandal
Xavier Boys defeated Anand Bal M.M by 3-1 in the 3rd division match of MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) at St Xavier’s ground, Parel on 4th May 2015.
It was a tight affair in the opening exchanges of the game. Both the teams got equal chances but both failed to score in the first few minutes of the game.
In the 9th minute Anand Bal M.M’s Tushar Kamavi gave a good pass but it was not well collected by central player whose shot was directed outside the field. It was a good chance for Anand Bal M.M to open their scoring.
Minute later Xavier Boy’s Ajit Shinde’s shot went few feet over the cross bar. Ajit Shinde made a good move by skipping many players and shooting in the direction but it went feet over the cross bar.
Xavier’s Boys opened their score in the 11th minute with Sumit Kamble controlling the throw ball and squeezing it between goalkeeper’s legs. It was a well-directed shot from 6 yards. Sumit Kamble scored the first goal for his team.
2 minutes later Xavier’s Boys Ashish Merchant doubled the lead by smashing a shot straight on target. Ashish from left volleyed the ball on target as no one. Xavier Boys were at 2-0.
Xavier’s Boys were awarded a penalty kick in the 18th minute. This penalty kick was converted into the opening goal for Anand Bal M.M. The penalty was shot by Siddharth Sawant who smashed it in the top left corner.
With this goal Anand Bal M.M made a comeback in the game and played with full enthusiasm.
The first half ended with Xavier Boys leading by 2-1 and Anand Bal M.M trying to show their presence.
With the second half Anand Bal M.M were more on the front foot and made attempts to score. They missed a chance in 23rd minute as the shot hit by Mrunal Parab was blocked by Xavier Boy’s Elvis Pereira and prevented a second equalizer for Anand M.M.
Elvis Pereira added a 3rd when he nodded in their corner with 15 minutes left for the final whistle. This goal gave Xavier’s Boys much needed breathing space with a 3-1 lead.
In the 35th minute Xavier ‘s Boys’ Ajit Shinde shot from center of the 6 yards area but his shot went over the cross bar.
Later the game lost momentum and it looked as Anand Bal M.M gave up as the game was played in their own half..
The final score saw Xavier’s Boys run out 3-1 winners as the game ended in disappointment for Anand Bal M.M.
