Tempered Atlanta lose by a Goal against Century Rayon

MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association)

Century Rayon and Atlanta both the table toppers in their playoffs moved ahead and played the semifinals on 21st April, 2015  at Xavier’s ground ‘Parel’. Century Rayon won with a goal though Atlanta were at their best but lost out. They will be still looking to fight for the 3rd place in the 2nd Division against Somaiya Vidyavihar this Saturday.

Mohsin Mulani of Atlanta seemed as the troublemaker from the very first minute and should have been restrained by being either sent off or should have been shown Yellow Card.

One of the setbacks for the Century Rayon team came in the form of a foul by  Mohsin Mulani  when he hit Paresh Chaudhary the Century goal keeper in the  pursuit of netting the goal and instead injured him.

Century Rayon adapted themsleves according to the need of the hour and changed their defensive stance to attacking the opponents goal with Shopam Lungleg  rescuing his side and had might have scored the opening goal in the 19th minute but the ball got deflected instead by hitting the sidebar. An injury ridden first half soon came to an end with neither team’s able to score.

Paresh Chaudhary recovered from his ankle injury and it was a relieve for Century in the start of second half, while Atlanta players were concerned as their Captain Nikhil Chavan had been fouled the third time and was taken out of play to receive medical attention in the 54th minute.

2 minutes later, Vicky Gagade of Century Rayon took advantage of Nikhil Chavan’s absence and chipped the ball over Roshan Balimane the desperate goalie tried to punch the ball away but it touched his fingers and own goal.

Atlanta had a solid defence with Navneet Palav clearing all the balls which could have been dangerous and held Century Rayon from scoring a goal again. The passionate football match ended with 6 minutes of added time and Century Rayon winning 1-0 with Atlanta giving a tough fight and having played themselves like Champions.
