St Joseph ruthlessly crushed Indian Gymkhana 5-0

The 2nd division match of MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) held at Xavier’s ground Parel on 19th February, witnessed St Joseph FC of Juhu crush Indian Gymkhana 5-0. Indian Gymkhana failed to score any goal and had to accept defeat against St Joseph FC.

Cyrus Kinny, Robin Rawat, Nestor Mondal and Nico Gonsalves scored in the first half to grant St Joseph lead. The pressure had been built on Indian Gymkhana players who tried to avoid the onslaught.

The defense of Indian gymkhana was weak and defenders kept on clearing the ball meticulously. After some unsuccessful through balls the fifth goal in the 46th minute was yet another blow for the Indian Gymkhana.

Reynold controlled the ball and kicked as he saw the goalie slightly on the right side of the post and volleyed on the left side as goalie tried to regain composure. The Indian gymkhana goalie was mighty clueless as the ball got deflected slightly a close angle as it entered the goal.

A minute later, Alphius Pereira tried to score the same way as the goalie had moved ahead to assist his losing players. He was unmarked and none of the players to intercept the ball he kicked it went a yard away from the post.

Situation became worse as the frequent errors of the players to clear the ball seemed to give more chances for the St Joseph FC to score. St Joseph began to dominate the match altogether. The possession of the 2nd half was mostly with the St Joseph players.

Bizar Gomes, the goalkeeper of the St Joseph FC left the penalty area completely as they were leading by 5 goals. Confidence about winning elated the players to perform their very best.

Indian Gymkhana on the other side had lost all hopes of winning and not even tried to score to escape a goal less defeat. The battle had been lost at the very moment when Indian Gymkhana players stopped trying to get back in the game.

As the final whistle blew, St Joseph FC 5 (Cyrus Kinny, Robin Rawat, Nestor Mondal , Nico Gonsalves, Reynold) defeated Indian Gymkhana 0.
