Rustomjee Go Green Cup 2015: Day Two Round-Up (U-8, U-10, U-12)

The 5th Rustomjee Go Green Cup had a great second day of football as teams’ fight to get into the knockout stages intensified. Matches on back to back days tested the resolve of these young guns, but there were no signs of fatigue as kids entertained us with some lovely football.

U-8 Category – Don Bosco B were too strong for Lions as they ran out 4-0 winners. Don Bosco backed by their usual chirpy crowd went in front thanks to an own goal in the 6th minute.

Boosted by hitting the front, Don Bosco wasted no time in adding on to their advantage as Utkarsh Surepalli put them 2-0 up after a cracking goal in the 7th minute.

Don Bosco went with a 2-0 lead against the KCL winners. After a tight second half, Don Bosco sealed the win with a goal from Cristiano Fernandes in the 18th minute. Two minutes later, Nathan Paul put daylight between them and their opponents with a fourth goal.

Omkar Kshirsagar’s brace helped Balmohan defeat Scottish United in the second game of the U-8 category.
U-10 Category – Fun Foot Academy Red tamed Tigers with a 6-0 thrashing. Shayne D’Costa opened the scoring for the FFA Reds in the 6th minute. Buoyed from the first goal, FFA Reds established a strong 3-0 lead by half time with goals in the 7th and 10th minute.

The second half was similar to the first as FFA Reds were ruthless in front of goal. Goals in the 13th, 16th and 22nd minute meant the score turned out to be a harsh lesson for Tigers. Shayne D’Costa and Dev Kapoor scored a brace each while Arjun Jalan and Jaffer Mansoori chipped in to help FFA Reds ease into the next stage.

In the other games in the U-10 category, Don Bosco blurred team Vision’s path to the next stage, after securing a 4-0 victory against them. Scott Rodrigues fired a brace for Don Bosco with Arzaan Panthaky and Harsh Palande also getting on the score sheet.

KCL Champions Dynamaites sealed their passage through to the knockout stages of the Go Green Cup with a 3-0 win over Super Smashers in which Tanmay Kakkar, Craig Salve and Dhanraj Gola found the net for the Dynamites.

In the final game of the day, Avengers and Cheetahs played out a thrilling 2-2 draw. Rayyan Qadir and Stavyah Goradia were on target for Cheetahs whose late equalizer stunned the Avengers who had managed to take the lead through goals from Paarsh Bafna and Dhwaj Ranawat.

U-12 Category – Don Bosco Red were too good for Golden Eaglets as the home side registered a 4-1 win over them. Samar Khatalkar put the Reds in front in the 6th minute. But his goal was instantly wiped off by Siddharth Konkar a minute later.

But Don Bosco regained the lead in the 10th minute to go into the second period 2-1 in front. Golden Eaglets couldn’t live with Don Bosco in the second half who notched up a 4-1 win in the end. Samar Khatalkar added to his first half goal as Nihal Dudwadka and Nathan Muzzello too found the net for Don Bosco.

Tridents edged a closely fought affair with Scottish FC as goals from Divyan and Nathan helped overcome Ryan’s goal for Scottish FC in a 2-1 win for Tridents.

Gladiators repeated last evening’s performance as another 8-0 win ensured their progress to the next round. Shane Arahana continued his breath taking form as he followed up his hat-trick with another four goals today as Jaden Irani scored a brace along with Moksh Surve and Shyam Parekh who got on the score sheet which read 8-0 in the Gladiator’s favor.

Blues too continued with their goal scoring form, this time putting nine goals past Otters. Keith Fernandes scored four, Harsh Palande bagged two while Boris Fernandes and Aryan J scored a goal each.

Day 2 had plenty of goals and a lot of action and drama. In the 2-2 draw in the final U-10 game, the parents got so much involved as they reacted to every move strung together by the Cheetahs. They were even unhappy with the referee for not awarding a penalty as any normal fan would feel.

The younger categories have produced a lot of dramatic moments and the kids’ and parents’ reactions to those were wonderful to watch.
