Rahul Mitra Mandal comeback to stun Daspatti VKM; Mumbai Railways Police rout Shree Mauli Mandal

Rahul Mitra Mandal (RMM) overcame an early setback to beat Daspatti VKM 4-1 in a 3rd Division game of the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) at St. Xavier’s Ground in Parel on Wednesday morning.

RMM started well as Aadil Jafferbhoy forced a good save off the Daspatti goalkeeper who dived low to his right to deny RMM the lead in the very first minute.

Much against the run of play, Daspatti took the lead when Akshay Khanvilkar smashed his shot home after controlling a Nishad Thakur pass.

But Daspatti’s joy didn’t last long as RMM equalized in the 9th minute when Freedon bundled in from close range to make in 1-1.

RMM grabbed the momentum to get their noses in front five minutes later, as Pranal Shetty scored after skipping past the challenge of Akshay Khanvilkar to put RMM 2-1 up. RMM held the lead till half time

Daspatti failed to take a chance which came their way just two minutes from the restart as Nishad Thakur and Shubham Khanvilkar combined well to conjure up an effort which missed the target.

RMM made no such mistake, and added to their lead when Melroy Noronha fired home a stunning free kick from the edge of the box putting RMM 3-1 in front in the 35th minute.

Despite Daspatti’s efforts they failed to add to their tally as RMM rounded off the morning’s play with a fourth goal from Pranal Shetty in the dying minutes of the game.

Rahul Mitra Mandal’s comeback proved too hot to handle for Daspatti VKM as they were comfortably beaten in the end.

Later in the day, Mumbai Railway Police produced a brilliant combined performance to outplay Shree Mauli Mandal by a 6-0 margin in a one-sided Third Division match of the MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) League – 2014-15, played at the St. Xavier’s ground, Parel, on Wednesday evening.

The hero of Railway Police’s victory was striker Tanveer Shaikh who fired home a fine hat-trick. Shaikh’s teammates Santosh Aavhad, Sanjay Mangala and Allwyn Kanjilal, all chipped in with a goal apiece to complete the winning tally.
