Great Mother Sports Club make the Quarters as hosts RCF crash out

Great Mother Sports Club (GMSC) shrugged off their league woes to find some joy in the Cup as they knocked out hosts Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilisers (RCF) in the first round of the 109th RCF Nadkarni Cup at the RCF Sports Complex thanks to a 3-1 win on Friday, 20th November 2015.
The hosts got off to strong start against a GMSC side struggling for confidence and put them under pressure right from the first whistle.
But RCF failed to take the few chances they created in the opening exchanges and slowly lost their gripon the game.
It was GMSC who then made a strong comeback into the game and forced the RCF goalkeeper into some crucial saves around the half hour mark in the game.
However unlike the hosts, GMSC made their dominance count and broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute when Arbaaz Kapadia helped home the rebound from the RCF goalkeeper’s save from Steve N’Cho to give the visiting team a half time lead.
The second half had a great tempo at the start as GMSC were inches away from doubling the lead as a shot from the edge of the box went just wide of the target.
At the other end it was RCF who came close just a few minutes later, but couldn’t grab the equalizer.
In the 60th minute though RCF levelled things up when Kevin Patrick volleyed home a delightful pass and bring smiles back on the scanty yet vocal home support.
But GMSC silenced the home support just two minutes later when they regained the lead through their forward Steve N’Cho who sent in a bullet header past the RCF goalkeeper.
RCF desperately seeked the equalizer and No.16 had a great chance to grab the levller but the forward took too much time to get the shot away, allowing the GMSC defender to tackle him.
GMSC eventually sealed their passage to the Quarter Finals with yet another headed goal from Abdoul Gueu to make it a final score of 3-1 in GMSC’s favour.
GMSC’s attacking prowess proved crucial as they sent RCF crashing out of the Nadkarni Cup in the very first round.
