Go green Day 1

The 5th edition of Go Green Cup kicked it off in style today at the Don Bosco ground in Matunga. There were twenty four games played on the day across five categories out of which ten games involved little kids under the age of twelve.

U-8 Category – Don Bosco duo blank opponents

The youngest footballers in town were in action in the first round of group matches today. The day turned out to be well for the hosts Don Bosco A & B who managed to secure narrow wins.

Don Bosco A beat a spirited Balmohan side 1-0, thanks to a second half goal from Yohan Panjuanj who could hardly hide his delight after scoring for Don Bosco.

Don Bosco B followed up with yet another 1-0 win over Scottish Champs as Meet Munyal’s goal was enough to see Don Bosco B victorious. The game’s highlight was the great support from groups of parents who cheered the teams on with some unique chants.

U-10 Category – KCL winners Dynamites start with a win

This category produced a lot of quality football today. Some fascinating goals were scored which included the Kenkre Champions League winners Dynamaites who recorded a 3-0 win over Don Bosco Boys.

Don Bosco Boys kept the KCL Champions at bay for nearly the whole of the first half before an own goal broke their resistance in the 12th minute. Dynamites added yet another goal in first half stoppage time as Rushaad Engineer found the net with a neat finish to put Dynamites in control.

Dynamites rounded off a brilliant performance in the second half as star forward Craig Salve fired in a third in the 21st minute.

KCL runners-up, Jaguars also started the Go Green Cup with a win as they came from behind to beat Avengers thanks to a brace from Joshua Mendes who was adjudged the ‘Best Player’ in the U-10 category in the KCL.

Don Bosco had an intense game against Fun Foot Academy Blue which was level pegging at half time with Saad Mohammed cancelling out Sumil Kotian’s opener for Don Bosco.

But Don Bosco proved too strong for the FFA Blues in the second half as goal from Scott Rodricks in the 15th minute was followed up by another goal from Harsh Palande a minute later. Zash Ferro put icing on the cake with a fourth goal in the 22nd minute.

But Fun Foot Academy Red made amends thrashing Super Stallions 5-0 with a brace from Jaffer Mansoori and goals from Arjun Jalan, Zal Colabawala and Shayne D’Costa.

U-12 – Don Bosco Reds and Gladiators register big wins

Don Bosco Reds handed Marians United a 9-0 thrashing in the opening fixture of the U-12 championship. Four players scored a brace for the Reds who proved to be too strong for Marians United.

Marians United coach was not happy with their performance and felt a defeat by such a big margin against Don Bosco was unacceptable. Shyam Redekar, Samar Khalatkar, Nathan Murzello and Vansh Kale were the four players who scored a brace each, while Floyd D’Souza added another goal.

Coach Oscar Alva’s Gladiators side was another team who scored a big win, who fired eight goals for Otters. Shane Arahana was the star of the show with a breath taking hat-trick. Moksh Surve bagged a brace as Jaden Irani, Vincent Charles and Khatib Mohammed chipped in with a goal each to complete the rout.

Blues thrashed The Dynamaites 5-0 in another game in the U-12 category as Harsh Palande scored four and another Harsh, Harsh Naik added another goal.

In the final game of the day in this category Bandra Stars and Milat FC played out an entertaining 2-2 draw. Gilchrist Carral and Joel Barnes scored for the Bandra Stars while Daniel Syed and Tabish Khan came up with the goals for Milat FC.

The game was one of the most thrilling ones of the evening and put a fitting end to an absolute fantastic day of football.
