Delhi Dynamos’ John Arne Riise has a message for Liverpool fans in India

Delhi Dynamos claimed their first three points of the season after they scraped past Chennaiyin FC 1-0 at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in New Delhi yesterday. Former Liverpool man, John Arne Riise was a rock at the heart of the Delhi Dynamos defence as he thwarted the Chennaiyin FC attack.

Enjoying home support for the first time in the ISL, Riise enjoyed plenty of support from the large number of Liverpool fans gathered in the stadium and Riise revealed he has felt the fans love since the day he signed for the Dynamos. “My twitter and Facebook accounts were filled with messages wishing me luck from the Indian Liverpool fans it feels so great to be loved. I can feel the love and that’s been the beauty of coming here. I would like to thank all the (Liverpool) fans which came to the stadium to support I hope I can repay it with my performances,” said an emotional John Arne Riise after the win against Chennaiyin FC, speaking to the ISL Media team.

John Arne Riise had to bring the best out of him to help Delhi Dynamos pick up the all-important win. Chennaiyin FC threw on their big frontman Fikru as a last ditch attempt to salvage something from the game. But Riise was ready for that challenge and ensured Fikru couldn’t conjure up the equalising goal that Chennaiyin FC needed.

“I was expecting to Fikru to start and I was determined to win ever header against him. So when he came on I was really focussed and won almost all the headers against him,” said the Norwegian full back who has been deployed as a center back by Roberto Carlos.

Riise also discussed his new role of being a centre back and felt that it’s something he is learning quickly. “Playing centre back is new for me although I have played there in the past. But I working hard for it and learning a lot as well. I am enjoying my new role,” Riise said.

The former Liverpool left back will be very crucial for the Delhi Dynamos this season and will be instrumental to ensuring the Dynamos rearguard functions as a unit. With the support of so many Liverpool fans behind him, his performances are certain to get better and better and that’s a great news for Delhi Dynamos.
