Champions HDFC Tigers face VNFC challenge in the IFS League Final

Defending Champions HDFC Tigers face VNFC in the Indian Football School (IFS) League 2.0 Final on Saturday evening at Cooperage. VNFC will be looking to end the Tigers’ dominance over the league after the HDFC Tigers won the league on the previous two occasions.

HDFC Tigers beat HDFC 3-2 over two semi-final legs en-route to the final after the Tigers finished second in the league stage. VNFC on the other hand hammered one of the tournament favourites Reunion 20-4 on aggregate in the 2nd semi-final to set up a grand final against HDFC Tigers.

HDFC Tigers start the game as favourites keeping in mind their previous experience and the knack of winning the league on two previous occasions. But the rise of VNFC in this competition can’t be ignored after having finished top of the pile in the league stage on goal difference which was a mammoth +67, 30 more than second placed HDFC.

HDFC must be wary of VNFC’s attacking duo of Steve N’Cho and Sylla who have scored 53 goals among them. VNFC’s attacking flair will take some real stopping even for the Tigers and they will have to be at their very best if they wish to claim a hat-trick of titles.

But HDFC Tigers will draw confidence from the 5-2 win over VNFC earlier in the campaign when they succeeded in keeping a tab on the striking duo of VNFC.

Tigers will be relying on their top scorer Nigel to deliver the goods in front of goal after the hitman has struck 8 times for the Tigers in this year’s competition.

So after a couple of months of hard work, we lie on the cusp of a truly mouth watering final at Cooperage today as Mumbai once again awaits the Champion of the most entertaining league in town.
