Century Rayon in the Semi- finals after beating S.T. Joseph’s 2-1
Century Continued on their winning trail with their second win in the 2nd Division Play-off match of MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) held at Xavier’s Ground, ‘Parel’ held on 16th April, 2015.
Riding on their previous win in the play-off match where they had thrashed Madanpura S.C by 2-0. Century Rayon further defeated S.T. Joseph’s in today’s match 2-1 with Thatchen and Bishow Thapa scoring for their side.
Calm and Composed Century Rayon players tried to build the game in the opening few minutes and didn’t allow S.T. Joseph to attack with short and crisp passes. One such passes turned fatal for the S.T. Joseph’s in the 14th minute as ThatChen headed it for the opening goal of the game.
With a goal behind, S.T Joseph’s soon started attacking as well and in the 28th minute the combined efforts of Reynold Murzello, Bradley D’souza and the goal scorer Nico Gonsalves helped S.T. Joseph’s equalize the score. With both teams scoring one goal each the first half came to an end.
The second half made Century Rayon more desperate for a win. ThatChen had a chance to score the second goal in the 44th minute which would have been similar to the first goal but this time he couldn’t.
But soon the second goal was scored soon by Bishow Thapa for Century Rayon in the 5 3rd minute as he dribbled past S.T. Joseph’s defenders and struck the bottom left-corner of the post. 7 minutes later, ThatChen got another opportunity to score the third goal but he failed to chip the ball over Elzar Gomes and with that the second half also ended with the score being Century Rayon defeating S.T. Joseph’s 2-1.
It would be interesting to witness both Madanpura S.C. and S.T. Joseph’s play as both have lost against Century Rayon in this week’s play-off matches.
