Central Bank of India see off spirited RCF to continue dream run

Central Bank of India (CBI) continued their amazing start to their season as they scraped past Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilisers (RCF) 1-0 in the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) Elite Division game at Cooperage on Friday evening.

CBI came into the game as favourites after their stunning start to the season, but faced a challenge living up to it right from the first whistle as RCF matched the Bankers right from the start.

The opening exchanges were extremely tight as both teams were toe to toe with each other.

But the in-form CBI side gave yet another testimony of their progress when they produced that bit of extra quality in the 27th minute which put them in front thanks to a goal from Robert Elankovan.

The goal gave CBI the impetus in the game but the Bankers failed to build on their advantage before the break despite just edging the overall play in the first half.

RCF came out strongly in the second half and immediately put CBI on the back foot. The Chembur outfit were made to feel hard done after they were denied what seemed pretty good calls for penalty.
