Bombay Gymkhana strike late to sink Rahul Mitra Mandal

Bombay Gymkhana netted an injury time winner to beat Rahul Mitra Mandal 2-1 in a 2nd Division game of the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) held at the St.Xavier’s Ground in Parel on Saturday, 22nd August 2015.

Both teams cancelled each other in what was a cagey first half of the game. With very little chances for either teams, the first half ended goalless.

The second half started well for Bombay Gymkhana as Yash Chaudhary put them in front, ten minutes from the restart. But just as the game was slipping away from Rahul Mitra Mandal, Atul Patel struck a shot which flew over the goalkeeper’s head and into the net.

With the game heading for a 1-1 draw, Yash Chaudhary popped up with the winner from almost the last kick of the game as he accurately drilled a low shot into the bottom corner as the Bombay Gymkhana bench erupted with joy.

There was no time for Rahul Mitra Mandal to hit back once again as the referee blew for full time immediately after the restart. The late goal is a huge one in the Bombay Gymkhana campaign as it rescued two points which they very nearly threw away.
