Birthday Boy Karim Shaikh’s brace helps Naaz United sink Konaark Realtors

Naaz United confirmed a top two finish with a 2-1 win over Konaark Realtors in the Colaba Super League encounter held at the Back Gardens Ground in Colaba on Sunday, 24th May 2015.

Naaz United who tasted defeat for the first time in the CSL last week, but results elsewhere ensured they had already qualified before kick off against the Konaark Realtors.

But it were the Men in Black who had the first real chance when Naaz United’s Balram Patil had to be alert whenhe cleared a Konaark shot destined for the Naaz goal off the goal line.

Six minutes later, Naaz United came close through a Rashid Shaikh free kick which went inches agonizingly wide of the far post. Naaz United started to dominate proceedings as the half progressed as Karim Sheikh’s shot was deflected just over the crossbar.

Konaark who resisted plenty of Naaz United pressure had a chance to grab the lead when Aditya Contrullu danced his way past three Naaz United defence to unleash a shot which went centimietres wide of the right hand side post in the 27th minute.

An entertaining half of football came to a close with both teams deadlocked at 0-0, despite Naaz United having the better of the half.

Naaz United made a dream start to the second half when, Balram Patil’s fine cross was nodded past the Konaark goalkeeper by Naaz United’s goal machine Karim Shaikh to put Naaz United in front.

Konaark Realtors worked their socks off in the second half to get back on level terms, but failed to take their chances at crucial juncture in the game.

Naaz United eventually put the result beyond them when birthday boy Karim Shaikh bagged his and his team’s second goal with just two minutes to play.

Konaark Realtors however grabbed a consolation in the final minute of the game through Jaiyu Tandel.

Naaz United confirmed a top two finish and remained hot on Brainy World’s heels before their match up next week.
