Arish Sutaria bags five as Kenkre FC come out on top in a ten goal thriller against Western Railways
Kenkre FC came through a roller coaster of a game as they beat Western Railways 6-4 in an Elite Division game of the MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) at Cooperage on 2nd February 2015.
Kenkre FC came into this game on the back of a defeat against PIFA Colaba, while Western Railways drew their last game against Central Bank of India.
The game had a good tempo to it since the very first minute and it took just 12 minutes for Kenkre FC to open the scoring when Arish Sutaria struck to put them 1-0 up.
But their joy was short lived as Western Railways came back into the game thanks to an equalising goal from Somnath Mondal in the 19th minute.
The game got open after both sides struck so early in the game. Derrick Joseph put Kenkre FC back in front in the 28th minute with a neat finish.
The goal lifted Kenkre as they began to play with lot of vigour, threatening to extend the lead before half time.
Arish Sutaria did just that after he got his second and Kenkre’s third just a minute before the half time whistle.
Kenkre FC went into the break with a two goal lead, but Western Railways always provided a threat, meaning the game was far from over.
Western Railways started the second half determined to wipe the deficit, and they took a major step in that direction when Linekar Machado pulled one back for the inter-Railway Champions in the 54th minute.
But it was supposed to be Arish Sutaria’s day as he completed his hat-trick with a fine strike in the 57th minute, to restore Kenkre’s two goal lead.
Both teams had lost their defensive shapes and it was end to end stuff as Western Railways were looking to reduce the deficit.
Sanjeen K.V’s goal for Western Railways in the 83rd minute gave them hope as what seemed to be a certain three points for Kenkre were very much in doubt.
Just a minute later, Sanjeev K.V once again breached the Kenkre FC back line to complete a memorable comeback for Western Railways who tied the score at 4-4 with six minutes plus stoppage time to play.
But there was a final act left in the play, the star of which was Arish Sutaria as he struch twice in the 89th and 90th minute to see Kenkre FC over the line and finally kill the Western Railways challenge.
It was a great game of football. A game which symbolized the league. We have to give credit to both teams for putting on a show of great skill and character.
But the day well and truly belonged to Arish Sutaria who scored five goals out of the ten scored on the day and clearly the difference between the two teams.
