Arif Quereshi’s late strike earns Carmelites a point

On 13th October 2015, Carmelites faced Naval Dockyard in division One of Mumbai District Football Association at St Xavier Football Ground, Parel. The outcome of the match ended in a stalemate where goal from Ramesh K. and Arif Quereshi for Naval Dockyard and Carmelites respectively cancelled each other out.

Naval Dockyard dominated right from the start and had an upper hand since Referee’s whistle, they would have won without much complications but a late strike from Arif Quereshi means that both the teams had to share a point.

Mid way into the first half, Ramesh K. slotted it home when a low cross from Ganesh Vaydande into the box found Ramesh who gave Naval Dockyard a much needed lead.

Naval Dockyard midfield completed overshadowed Carmelites, impressive performance from Rasjesh Sarang, Anthony George and Dhiraj exploited Carmelites defence.

In the second half, Naval Dockyard continues to dominate Carmelites but for being not clinical the score stayed 1-0 until the very last minute of the match.

Carmelites were awarded a free kick in the dying minutes. Dwayne Maccaroon stepped up and put a dangerous ball into the box which found Arif Quereshi who slotted it home in a fascinating manner, earning Carmelites an all important point.

Although Carmelites dominated in last ten minutes, the result kind of proved to be unfair to Naval Dockyard who could have won without much nuisance.
