The Independence Day Cup fixtures announced
The occasion : Independence Day. The event : Nine a side football tournament called Independence Day Cup. Date : 14th and 15th August, 2014. Venue : St. Xavier’s ground, Parel. It features the cream of local teams in Mumbai, going head-to-head for the title. Hundreds of spectators come to watch this event and their experience is such that the whole environment is mesmerizing every single year since this tournament has been organized. ‘Independence Cup’ is the first event of the season which is conducted annually by Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) a legal body who runs football in Mumbai, affiliated with WIFA i.e. Western India Football Association which in turn is affiliated with the AIFF i.e. All India Football Federation. This tournament will be followed by the ‘Nadkarni Cup’ for Elite Div. organized by RCF. After which the 3rd, 2nd, 1st, Super & Elite division will commence. The other tournament organized by MDFA is the ‘Republic Cup’ held on the 26th of January every year .
Definitely Air India And Indian Navy are the favourites among all. 4 time champion Rastriya Chemical & Fertilizers, Chembur i.e. RCF are not participating certainly gives relief to other teams. It’s the most happening tournament which helps the clubs to prepare well for their season in the various MDFA leagues.
The fixtures for this tournament are out, a 2 day event in which 14 teams have been featured. It will be a knockout tournament, that means losing a game will mean the team are out of the tournament. Defending champions Indian Navy and runners up GM Sports will receive a bye in the first round and will directly play the quarterfinal round.
