FC Mumbaikars thumps Mumbai Warriors 5-1 in Youth League

27th October 2017, Mumbai: The U-15 Youth League 2017-18 (Qualifiers) went underway on Friday evening when Football Club of Mumbaikars faced Mumbai Warriors SC in the opening game of Maharashtra Zone at Cooperage Stadium.

In what turned out to be a one-sided affair, FC Mumbaikars registered a thumping 5-1 victory to kick-start their campaign on a winning note against a spirited Mumbai Warriors side.

FC Mumbaikars started greatly after going close quite a few times in the opening 10 minutes of the game. Attacker Brendan Gomendes’ superb cross had found Striker Moeen Shaikh, whose close-range shot was brilliantly tipped off by Mumbai Warriors’ Custodian Gaurang Vengurlekar.

Moments later, midfielder Aaron Nazareth missed a sitter when he only managed to hit the crossbar from six yards after a wonderful build-up. The only thing which was separating both the sides were FC Mumbaikars’ lack of killer instinct in front of the goal.

As the match was headed towards the half-time, against the run of play, Mumbai Warriors opened the scoring with their first attempt on the target. Jordan Soans finished a brilliant move to nod home a loose ball into the back of the net to break the deadlock.

FC Mumbaikars changed their gear and went all-in in the second-half. The killer instinct which was missing earlier turned into a clinical one.

Brendan Gomendes leveled the score in the 51st minute before Joel Barnes scored a stunning goal in the 69th minute from outside the box to give FC Mumbaikars the lead for the first time in the match.

An end-to-end match followed soon after FC Mumbaikars’ second goal. By the time match was headed towards the last ten minutes, Mumbai Warriors completely ran out of gas which gave their counterpart a huge opportunity to kill the match.

The last five minutes saw FCM scoring three sublime goals. Moeen Shaikh scored two quick goals before Joel Barnes wrapped up the game in the 89th minute with a wonderful finish.
