We were mentally prepared to get into the playoffs from the 1st match itself: MSP Head Coach Ashutosh Rathod

Mumbai Soccer Prodigies (MSP) have confirmed their place in the Playoffs of the Mumbai Super League (MSL) 2024-25.
Their latest success—a commanding 7-1 victory over Kenkre FC U-19—epitomized the team’s well-rounded performances this season.
Reflecting on the win, head coach Ashutosh Rathod said, “We had lost crucial points in the last match against KSA Juniors as it was a draw and pretty disappointing as we had missed a lot of chances. So the boys knew we would have to bounce back stronger, and I was definitely expecting a good performance. The boys delivered what we needed.”
MSP stands as one of the league’s most prolific teams, second only to Mumbai Ultras (34) in goal-scoring with 32 goals in nine matches, conceding just nine—averaging just 1 goal per match. While pleased with the numbers, Ashutosh believes there’s room for improvement: “This definitely could have been better for us as we have missed plenty of chances in many of our games. However, both the attackers and defenders are working hard to get better each day. I trust my boys to perform better and improve consistently.”
MSP’s playoff qualification comes with a game in hand, marking a significant achievement in Group D. The team is now strategically preparing for the playoffs. Ashutosh added, “We were mentally prepared to get into the playoffs from the first match this season. While we are yet to play our last game of the league stages, we will slowly start shifting focus to strategizing for the playoffs. Backend work has already started, and soon it will reflect in our training sessions.”

One of MSP’s defining strengths this season is their squad composition—a harmonious blend of seasoned players and youthful energy. Ashutosh elaborated on this dynamic and shared a memorable moment: “MSP Academy’s U-17 batch graduated this season, and we ensured they didn’t have to struggle to find clubs to play for. Matchday 1 against Brothers FC stands out—a perfect example of our young and experienced players shining together. Despite being down to 10 men after 35 minutes, the boys turned the game around to win 3-1. That match strengthened my belief in this squad.” This integration of youth development with senior football exemplifies MSP’s commitment to nurturing talent through their academy pipeline.
A standout performer this season has been 17-year-old goalkeeper Jacob, whose remarkable displays have reinforced MSP’s experience defense. Under the mentorship of Maharashtra Santosh Trophy player and MSP’s goalkeeping coach Chinmay Shirke, Jacob is showing signs of becoming a future star. Ashutosh highlighted, “Jacob has been with us for a few years now, and I see great potential in him. With the right focus and training, I expect him to reach higher levels, beyond the Mumbai Premier League. I also want to commend Ayaan, our new keeper, who is pushing Jacob to his best with consistent efforts. Chinmay’s experience and mentorship have been invaluable for their growth.”
With the playoffs on the horizon, MSP is bracing for heightened challenges. The top eight teams will compete in an expanded format, ensuring more game time and tougher competition. Confident in his squad’s resilience, Ashutosh expressed optimism: “My boys have given me every reason to believe in them. It’s only going to get tougher from here, but I trust their fighting spirit. They are ready to work harder and grow stronger.”
The journey doesn’t end here. The qualification is just one phase of Mumbai super league. Things will be more tougher from here as Top 8 teams will come into action for the Mumbai super league playoffs with added twist in the playoffs which assure these teams with much more Gametime.
