Fixtures announced for the new Barclays Premier League season
Chelsea will begin the defence of their Barclays Premier League title at home to Swansea City on Saturday 8th August in an early start to the Barclays Premier League due to the European Championships in France to follow after the end of the season.
The pick of the clashes on the opening day will feature Louis Van Gaal’s Manchester United play host to Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford. United’s cross town rivals and last season’s runners-up Manchester City will begin their campaign away to Tony Pulis’ West Bromwich Albion while Arsenal kick off with a home derby tie against Slavan Bilic’s West Ham United. A Steven Gerrard-less Liverpool will get a instant chance for revenge when they travel to Stoke who thrashed them in the final game of last season.
Chelsea and Manchester City will have to face an early test of their credentials the duo square off at the Etihad in the very second week when they meet on 15th August 2015. The very next weekend will see Arsenal entertain Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium on 22nd August.
The most awaited game for Manchester United will come fairly early in the season when they will welcome arch rivals Liverpool to Old Trafford on September 12 before a run of tough October fixtures which will see them travel to Arsenal, Everton and Crystal Palace, while having a home date with neighbours Manchester City.
Champions Chelsea who face a somewhat tough start to their title defence will face Arsenal at home in September before facing Manchester United in their last game of 2015.
talking of the big derbies, the first of the North London derbies will take place at the Emirates on 7th November with the reverse at White Hart Lane happening on 5th of March. The season’s first Merseyside Derby is schedules for 3rd October at Goodison Park while the Anfield Derby will take place on 27th February 2016.
Arsenal and United have identical and slightly easier run-ins with trips to the Etihad and White Hart Lane, the only real challenges for both the sides. Chelsea have slightly more complicated run-in with a trip to Anfield in March followed by home ties against City and Tottenham Hotspur.
This automatically leaves Manchester City with all the big boys to play in the last three months in their run-in to a probable title.
The League kick starts on the 8th August and will end on 15th May, which will see the league wrapped up nine days prior to that of the 2014/15 season.
