Fan voice – Romario en route to become a Gaur fan favorite

Gaur fans hail 24 year old Alexander Romario, who provided the crucial assist for Igor’s goal in the win against Odisha.

FC Goa registered their second win of the Hero ISL, thanks to a goal from Igor Angulo, who scored his 6th goal of the season. Igor has been looking like a serious contender for the Golden boot award in his first ISL season as he has scored 6 out of the 7 goals scored by FC Goa. The Gaurs are now placed at 5th position with 8 points from 5 games.

Gaurs fans have lauded the team’s efforts to get back to winning ways. The fans have been impressed with Igor banging in the goals but also lauded Romario’s performance who provided the crucial assist.

Kunal Kunkolienkar of East Lower Army says “Romario has been good this season. He is a talented lad and makes good runs on the flanks. He has also provided important assists this season.” The season waits for what more Romario has to offer as they progress ahead.

Many fans feel that the team is on its way towards gaining momentum and improving themselves, Romario is also improving himself day by day. He has been working very hard and putting in crosses very frequently. Melbish Fernandez, a member of the FC Goa fan club believes that providing assists and scoring goals was expected of Romario and he looks set to become a fan favourite as he progresses in the season.

The fans have also pointed out key areas which require an improvement for the rest of the tournament. Salil Naik, a member of East Lower Army, says that the Indian players need to step up and perform in games. The 7 goals scored by FC Goa are by foreign players, so the Indian players need to show some magic in front of the goal and put the ball at the back of the net.

Omkar Madkaikar of FC Goa fan club believes that the team need to give their 100% and it’s just a matter of time that the team wins by a healthy goal difference. The team should start scoring more goals and improve their goal difference.

Although 6 of the 7 FC Goa’s goals have come from the Igor Angulo’s boots, fans are not worried and believe others will soon join in on score sheet. “Igor scoring most of the goals might seem like a concern for few. For me , Igor is a striker and it’s job and if he was able to score it’s due to the players playing as team and setting him up. 100 % of goan goals are from open play. It would have been a problem if Igor became a top scorer by scoring only penalties” says a confident Melbish Fernandes from Sao Jose De Areal and a member of FC Goa Fan Club.

With 2 back to back wins, Gaurs will be eager to consolidate their place in to 4 as the race heats up going forward.
