Team Autonomous win Avengers Cup 2020

Declan Gonsalves’ sudden death save clinched Avengers Cup 2020 for team Autonomous.  After a neck to neck competition against Cecilians in the finals, the match proceeded to penalties after a 1-1 draw in the regulation time. Netting all the penalties, the match went down to sudden deaths. Declan’s heroic in the sudden death ensured Autonomous the bragging rights to take home the trophy.

The Avengers Cup was contested among 32 teams from all over Mumbai in a knockout format. The tournament paid homage to late Scott Dsouza, who succumbed to a cardiac arrest while playing in October, by naming a trophy after him.

Raphael Dias from Team Autonomous became the ‘Player of the Tournament’ after scoring 8 goals. Speaking about the accolade, Raphael felt elated to start the season on a high note. “The tournament was well organized. I played after a very long time with my team members at Autonomous. I feel it is a great start to our season with this win. It was only because of the hard work I’ve put that I was able to score the goals and receive the Best Player Award” quotes Dias.

Speaking to Gordon from FC Cecilians, he spoke about the smooth operations of Avengers Cup, the memories of  Scott Dsouza, and winning the ‘Promising Player of the Tournament’. “It was an amazing tournament. I guess there were no yellow cards displayed, which suggests how disciplined the players were. The respect given to Scott Dsouza for his contributions was heart touching. Winning the Scott Dsouza most Promising Player of the Tournament award was an emotional moment for me. I will cherish this trophy all my life because Scott has always motivated us and I’m sure he’s watching all of us from somewhere” says Gordon.

Mr Dilawar, who was invited as a guest lauded the efforts put in by Mr Judhiste Panda, a core team member of the organizing committee. “It was well managed, systematic and a  disciplined event with great Hospitality. As a Guest, I really enjoyed it. Many congratulations to him and the team.” quipped Mr Dilawar.

Avengers Cup 2020 arranged by Avengers Soccer Academy had Max Protein and Jai Ganesh Enterprise as their partners.
