Mumbai football back on track as MDFA plans to start season from November

Mumbai Football

After the Covid-19 pandemic put a stop to all footballing activities in the city, Mumbai Football is all set to get back on track for the 2020-21 season

MDFA has opened the registrations for the upcoming 2020-21 season. The registrations will be for all five tiers of Mumbai Football and will be held online starting October 1st, 2020.

The Season is being planned to be Kicked-Off with MDFA First Division (Private And Corporate) with a tentative starting date of the league being 1st November 2020. MDFA 1st Division currently has 52 teams divided into 6 pools. A total of 168 league matches will be held, after which further 20 play-offs matches will be held. All the matches will be held in Neville Dsouza Ground, in Bandra.

All other tiers, including Mumbai Football’s premier league – Elite Division is being tentatively scheduled to start from January 1st, 2021 onwards. Last season, Elite Division had to be scrapped off in the final leg of the league phase after the Covid-19 pandemic forced the city into the lockdown. The restart of the league will be a welcome boost to all city footballers and officials alike, most of whom are significantly depended on the game.

Meanwhile, MDFA plans to resume their office from 28th September, 2020 onwards. Standard Operating Procedures for MDFA Leagues and Government guide line would be needed to be followed by all clubs and players alike.
