Companeroes hold GM Sports Club, Mumbai Port Trust win 9 goal thriller

Elite division witnessed 2 draws as Companeroes, GMSC, BOB, Mumbai Customs all shared a points apiece while Super Division witnessed a 9 goal thriller

The Elite division encounters of Monday witnessed two draws as Companeroes, GMSC, BOB and Mumbai Customs all shared a points apiece while Super Division witnessed a 9 goal thriller.

The Cooperage encounter between defending champions Mumbai Customs and Bank of Baroda (formerly Dena Bank) ended in a goal less draw as neither side managed to break the deadlock.

The other Elite division game of the day was played out at Mumbai Football Arena where Companeroes SC (A) faced off against GM Sports Club. Companeroes SC goalkeeper Bunty Dhiman produced a superlative effort especially in the second half with numerous saves to rescue his side a point from the game.

Moiz Lakhana opened the scoring when in the16th minute, he dribbled past the Companeroes defence to slot home the goal and put GM Sports in lead. GM Sports continued their dominance but failed to add to the goals tally as both sides entered the break. On restart, lapses of concentration led to an error inside GM Sports box as referee awarded the spot-kick to Companeroes. Pranit Kadam converted his attempt to draw parity in the game.

GM Sports then we surged in attack in search of an equalizer but failed to break a resolute Companeroes defence led by their goalkeeper Bunty who put on an inspirational performaces pulling off crucial saves throughout the game. The match ended at 1-1 as both sides went home with a point.

Meanwhile, the Super Division encounter at Neville D’souza ground witnessed a nine goal thriller between Spring Field and Mumbai Port Trust. The latter rode on Y. Ansari hat-trick and a late Mohd. Atif brace to take all three points.

Ansari’s 23rd minute strike had put MPT in lead but Spring field fought back with two quick goals from Raven Muntha and Reuel Kunder within ten minutes to take the lead at break. On restart, MPT came back stronger with two quick goals in the space of seven minutes as Y Ansari completed his hat-trick.

However Raven struck an equalizer in the 86th minute to come back into the game. Mohd Atif then restored MPT lead in the very next minute. In the second minute of injury time Mervin Almand popped up with a goal to draw parity once again. However just when it looked that the game would end in a draw, Mohd Atif came up with the winner in final minute of the game as the match ended in favour of Mumbai Pprt Trust.
