Johnson strikes brace as Air India beat WR 3-0

Air India ride on Johnson D’silva brace to win 3-0 in Elite Division game while Desperados SC and JMJ Sports SC register close victories in Super Division
After a cagey first half where neither side managed to break the deadlock, Air India finally came good with three goals in second half against Western Railway in an Elite Division encounter played out at Cooperage ground on Wednesday.
The best chance of the first half came in the 40th minute when Ashiqe Mohammed rose highest to head a corner kick straight at Western Railway custodian Jagroop, who dived low to get hold of the ball and deny a goal.
Early in the 2nd half, Air India finally took the lead when a strike from winger was spilled over by Western Railway Goalkeeper. The ball fell to Johnson, who was lurking inside the box, as he made no mistake in burying the ball into the net.
Few minutes later, Rosenberg, who looked lively throughout the game with his wing-play, did well to cut in from the left dribbling past two defenders before laying it off for an onrushing Jasbeer just outside the box. Jasbeer’s first time strike however went inches wide off the post as the score remained 1-0.
Midway through the second half, Johnson almost doubled the lead but his shot was blocked away by the keeper however the ball kindly fell for Mohammed Ashiqe whose left footed curler from the left side of the box nestled at the far post to make it 2-0.

Veteran midfielder, Vijith Shetty then came the closest, when his looping free-kick from right missed everyone to go just wide off the bar. Rosenberg, who was excellent throughout the day then had a chance to get his name on the score sheet when he dribbled past his marker and dropped his shoulder to shoot just wide off target.
Later in the game, Ashiqe from left corner dribbled past a defender before setting up Johnson with a beautiful low cross. The striker’s first time powerful shot was unconvincingly blocked by WR keeper Jagroop. The ball slipped past him to cross the goal line as the referee awarded the goal to Air India. The game ended at 3-0 in favour of Air India
Meanwhile in Super Division, a late strikes from Mithilesh Kasare and Wayne Trinidade gave Desperados SC a 2-0 win over Veniza XI while in other game, JMJ Sports rode on Rohel Shaikh’s 26th minute goal to edge Spring field.
