Khelo India: Maharashtra win against Punjab
After the completion of two successful editions of the Khelo India Youth Games held at New Delhi and Maharashtra, the third edition of the Khelo India Youth Games is happening in the North-Eastern state of Assam, in the city of Guwahati.
Having 20 sports excluding cricket, football is one of the sporting event in Khelo India. Alongside all the Indian states, Maharashtra has sent two teams for the football event. A U-21 Men’s team and a U-17 Girls team has been sent for this year. The U-21 Men’s team is placed in Group A alongside Odisha, Punjab, and Meghalaya.
Until now, the Maharashtra U-21 team has displayed impressive performance. They romped to a decisive win against Punjab and held Meghalaya to a feisty draw. With 4 points, their qualification hopes to the knockout round seem positive.
On their first game, Shantanu Ningurkar and Sanket Salokhe scored for the team and guided Maharashtra to their opening victory. On their second match, Aman Gaikwad’s long-range effort happened to be enough to hold Meghalaya to a 1-1 draw. Our boys will play their next game against Odisha, on 17th of January at the Sai Centre Paltan Bazar from 1:30 PM.
Currently, after Day 6, Maharashtra sits on top bagging a total of 110 medals which includes 28 golds, 32 silvers, and 50 Bronze.
