In a first of its kind, the finals of the Mumbai’s lowest division in football league pyramid will be hosted in an international football stadium

For the first time in history, the final game of MDFA 3rd division – (the fifth tier of Mumbai football pyramid) will be played at the Mumbai’s only internationally recognized football stadium i.e Mumbai Football Arena on Sunday at 3.30.

This is a big welcome step from the MDFA to provide the lower echelons of Mumbai Football, an opportunity to play in one of the best football stadiums in the country. Last year few of MDFA’s Elite division and Super Division matches, were held at the same venue. This year, the door was opened for the MDFA third division teams too, the fifth tier in Mumbai Football Pyramid.

MDFA President and Yuva Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray had earlier played an crucial role in bringing international Football back to the city. Since 2016, Mumbai Football Arena has hosted our National team numerous times including the recently concluded Hero Intercontinental Cup, the arena also serves as the home stadium of Mumbai City FC of the Indian Super League. The football stadium holds around 8000-9000 spectators and has one of the best infrastructures in the country.

If such infrastructure could be provided to more teams on more regular basis, it will not only be a big boost for the footballers but also benefit the clubs encouraging them to invest in the sport. With the growing interest for the game in the city, MDFA is also planning to have another artificial turf ground in the city. Currently the Neville Dsouza football ground at Bandra reclamation Ground is in the plans.

After hosting the semi-finals couple of days back, the 3rd place and the final of MDFA 3rd Division will be played on Sunday afternoon, 14th October. In a bid to create more buzz and exposure, MDFA is planning to live telecast the game on YouTube. the efforts put out by the associations over the past couple of years has been commendable and will help grow the game in the city of dreams.
