Clinical Companeroes too strong for Kenkre FC in the MDFA Women’s League

Companeroes saw off a Kenkre fightback either side of half time to eventually brush them aside 3-0 in a MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) Women’s League game at the Karnataka Sporting Association on 19th February 2015.
Companeroes were looking to maintain their unbeaten start having won two and drawn one before this game.
Companeroes started the game on the front foot, pushing Kenkre FC deep inside their own half. The Kenkre FC goalkeeper had to be on her toes as she pounced on a shot from a tight angle in the 5th minute.
Companeroes made their dominance count in the 9th minute when Summer Gonsalves brilliantly chest controlled a cross from Shirley Sequeira to volley into the top corner. It was a brilliant finish from the Companeroes forward.
Three minutes later Kenkre had their first opening after Brinelle Montero brilliantly held up the ball to release Althea Coutinho on her way wide on Kenkre’s left flank, but Althea’s cross was straight in the waiting arms of Anisha Chavan who was in goal for Companeroes.
Kenkre were inches away from equalising in the 17th minute when Althea Coutinho robbed a sloppy Companeroes defender to run past the last line of defence and shoot, but the shot went inches wide.
Companeroes’ early swagger had vanished and Kenkre had grown into the game. Half time came at a wrong time for Kenkre who had just started to play well. But Companeroes rightly held the lead after being on top for majority of the first half.
Kenkre carried the confidence gained late in the first half into the second period as they started well and putting some pressure on the Companeroes back line.
Companeroes responded with two good chances for them on the break when a poor touch let down Shirley Sequira who was one on one with the keeper in the 31st minute.
A minute later Summer Gonsalves did well to win back the ball in the Kenkre box only to fire her shot over. Companeroes missed two great chances to put the game to bed with just a quarter of the game to play.
But they weren’t to be denied four minutes from time when Shirley Sequira bundled home a cross from close range to put Companeroes firmly in the driver’s seat with a 2-0 advantage.
Companeroes added icing on the cake with another goal in the 39th minute with Summer Gonsalves getting her second of the game.
Referee blew for full time as Companeroes ran out comfortable winners in the end.
Earlier in the day Aadhar Pratishthan beat Royal Warriors in another game of the MDFA Women’s League 2-0 with goal from Gale Kakkad in the 8th minute and Anushka Fernandes in the 30th minute
