With his successfull spot kick, Hume became the leading goalscorers of ISL history

Atletico de Kolkata moved to the second spot of the table after their unbeaten run continued against Delhi Dynamos at the Rabindra Sarobar Stadium despite going down to ten men for the last 15 minutes of the game. Iain Hume converted from the spot in the 78th minute after Sameehg Doutie was brought down inside the box, while Marcelinho had missed his Spot kick at the other end for the lions, three minutes before.

ATK started with four changes from the previous game against FC Goa with Lalrindika Ralte replacing Java Lara while Bikramjit Singh came in place of the suspended Stephen Pearson. Arnab Mondal made way for Tiri, while despite impressive performance Abinash Ruidas was replaced by Juan Belencoso. For Delhi, Zambrotta brought back Toni Doblas between the stick supported by Ruben Rocha and Konsham Singh in the defense. Rupert Nongrum and Marcelinho were the wide men with Richard Gadze the lone striker.

The match started with both sides playing cautiously. While there were few misunderstandings between ATK attack, Delhi slowly started coming into their attacking groove.

In the 20th minute, a Marcelinho free kick was bizarrely parried out for a corner by Kolkata custodian, the resulting corner saw the debjit again loose the ball under pressure from Malouda whose header was cleared by Tiri.

Minutes later, a through ball from Malouda saw Marcelinho run past his marker and cross it for a onrushing Milan Singh but was denied by Prabir Das tackle. At the half hour mark, Belencoso attempted a shot from the edge of the box following a Ralte cross although hume, who was making a run in to the centre, was in better position.

In the 35th minute, Debjit finally stepped up his game when he came up with a flurry of saves from Delhi attacks. Malouda’s shot was first parried by Debjit only to fell for Gadze whose follow up shot was again blocked by the custodian. The ball went towards Marcelinho whose shot was once again blocked by the Keeper before Rupert Nongrum finally smashed it over much to the relief of ATK defence and their fans.

By the end of the half, Doutie provide the ATK some teeth in the attack but the ATK forwards failed to make any impact. First Balencoso headed wide while another cross saw hume’s shot being off target.  The first half ended with neither team able to break the dead lock.

The second half began with Delhi’s gadze missing a golden opportunity, a long ball was headed by Marcelinho in to Gadze’s path who had run past Tiri and only had Debjit to beat,  however gadze scraped his shot straight at debjit.

After a period of some dull moments, at the hour mark, Doutie slid a pass for Ralte whose first time shot was just inches over the bar. In the 73rd minute, a ball from Memo found gadze goal bound but Serrano’s poor tackle ended up conceding a penalty while also receiving the second yellow of the night as he was sent off. The resulting spot kick from Marcelinho went over the bar.

Despite being man down, ATK came up with another attack down the right, where Doutie was brought down by Kimkima inside the box before he could pass, winning his team a crucial penalty. Hume stepped up and sent Doblas the wrong way as he smashed his spot kick to the left corner.

While Molina decided to sit back on his one goal lead by introducing Arnab Mondal in place of Ralte, Zambrotta brought on attacking changes bringing in Bruno Pelissari for Marcos Tebar and Badara Badji in place of Marcelinho, who had a disappointing night.

Despite few attacks from Delhi by the end, ten men Atletico de Kolkata saw the game out comfortably as they went up three places to second on the table from five matches.
