Konark and Shark FC emerge victorious on Sunday evening

Konark and Shark FC held their nerves to overcome Shiv Sagar FC and Jyoti FC on Sunday evening in a anticipating Colaba Sports League match at Cooperage Stadium. Konark had to wait until the penalty shootout where they comfortably won 2-0, whereas Faizal Shaikh’s wonder goal was enough for Shark FC to prevail against Jyoti FC.
Konark 0-0 Shiv Sagar (Konark wins 2-0 on penalties)
Konark kept their calm and composure to overcome Shiv Sagar 2-0 in a nervy penalty shootout at Cooperage after the score was tied 0-0 in the regulation time.
Konark’s star player Valentine Pereira almost saw his effort in the back of the net, but Vikas Gupta’s brilliant reflex kept his shot out.
Valentine got the best chance of the game when his looping header rattled the right hand post, and went across the goal towards Charles Fernandes whose left footed shot was saved by Vikas Gupta.
After both the team failed to capitalize on their chances, the match went into penalties where Konark emerged as 2-0 winner. Valentine’s penalty was brilliantly saved by Vikas before Ritesh Perambra saw his penalty going wide for Shiv Sagar.
Richesh Patil put Konark in front after a comprehensive penalty which was followed by another miss by Shiv Sagar as Mohsin Khan failed to convert his penalty. Konark’s Sushil Salvi stepped up and scored past Vikas Gupta to see off Shiv Sagar 2-0.
Konark’s Abhishek Ambekar was named as the Player of the tournament.
Shark FC 1-0 Jyoti FC
Playing with plenty of grit and determination, Shark FC registered a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Jyoti FC in a tense and hotly contested league match of the Colaba Sports League, played at the Cooperage ground.
After the opening half of 35-minute duration failed to produce a goal, Shark FC finally broke the deadlock when their junior player Faizal Shaikh scored from a brilliant effort. The young and skillful Faizal chased a long aerial ball and then kept his cool to deftly lob over an advancing Jyoti FC goalkeeper Kishan Sulegi ,who had come off his line to find the back of the net in the 45th minute. The talented Faizal was the obvious choice for the ‘Player of the match’ award.
Thereafter, Jyoti FC fought on gamely and went all out in search of the equalizer but they were not successful in finding the target in the remaining period and finished on the losing side.
Earlier, both the teams were reduced to 10 men. Shark FC defender Walter Liu and Jyoti FC midfielder Praneel Mendon, were both sent off after picking double bookings in the match.
